We're expanding our services. Your questions answered
The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) is expanding its service offering throughout New South Wales and South Australia. This expansion will see BGF provide fee-for-service National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services to all people, especially those living with HIV (PLHIV), the broader LGBTQIA+ community and to all people seeking progressive, supportive care.
BGF has always offered practical support to those living with HIV and this expansion into the broader community will ensure the financial sustainability of BGF well into the future. This decision will also allow us to provide tailored support, free from stigma and discrimination to new communities who are living with a disability.
Why is BGF broadening its services to all people?
Living with HIV has come a long way since the dark days of the 1980s and 90s. Thanks to the powerful activism and leadership shown by Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ community, significant changes have been made that have influenced the way Australia’s health policy supports PLHIV today.
Since 1984, BGF and the LGBTQIA+ community have worked alongside each other in times of need and we recognise the ongoing need for sensitive service provision for those who are living with a disability.
We understand and recognise our important role in providing meaningful support to PLHIV and that is why ensuring we see them continue to thrive remains our primary mission. It’s also fundamental to this expansion – all funds raised through this new fee-for-service model will be redirected back into funding BGF’s support services that directly support PLHIV.
What will this expansion look like for existing and new clients of BGF?
For existing clients, there will be no difference to the way they currently receive their support services. We anticipate that this expansion will enable us to increase our capacity to provide more programs and services over time to PLHIV.
For new clients and for the broader community, we will be able to provide specialised, quality support to those who most need it.
How will this expansion affect existing NDIS and fee-for-service clients of BGF?
Existing clients will continue to receive the same quality support that they have come to expect from their support worker. They can continue to expect ongoing meaningful, practical and tailored support.
For the broader community, BGF will offer tailored fee-for-service support under the NDIS.
