Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) is proud to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart for a First Nations Voice to Parliament to be enshrined in the Constitution, which will give Australia’s First Nations community an opportunity to speak directly to Parliament on policies and projects that impact their lives.
Over the past four decades, we have been supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community, so we understand the profound importance of self-determination. Our mission is to help people to thrive by empowering them to take control of their lives and we believe that everyone deserves the right to shape their own futures and have a voice in it.
We are an organisation committed to improving the health outcomes of our community members. We acknowledge the inequities that exist in health care that can lead to a reduced quality of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people compared with non-Indigenous Australians, which urgently needs to change.
The Voice will give the Traditional Owners of Australia a voice in matters that concern them, with the goal of helping to inform decisions that will create equity for First Nations communities and in turn, improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
We believe, by supporting The Voice to Parliament, Australia can demonstrate solidarity, compassion and inclusion to First Nations peoples – values that are central to our core here at BGF.
We acknowledge and understand that some people may have a different opinion on The Voice, and we respect their right. However, we believe a Voice to Parliament is the right step forward for improving outcomes for First Nations people and for all Australians.
As part of our commitment to reconciliation, BGF’s Board and employees recognise that The Voice to Parliament will strengthen Australia, both now and well into the future.
